Suddenly Mel's sister Joey arrives for an unexpected visit ( what's with their parents, giving girls boys names?). Attendance is mandatory: if Mel doesn't go, everyone will hate her forever. When you least expect it, the DJ shouts "Mingle!", and you have to change partners. Mel and the audience don't know what Mingle is, so Hope explains: The whole town gathers at a farm for dinner and dancing. It will never be ready in time! "I take a few days off to recuperate from the horrible thing that happened to me, and everything goes to hell in a handbasket!" Tragedy Count: 3. They catch up: he's doing ok in spite of the latest horrible thing that happened to him (no, he doesn't want to talk about it), and she's taking a few days off to forget the horrible thing that happened to her ("It's best to repress your feelings.") Tragedy Count: 2Įlderly busybody Hope stops in, upset: Preacher has insanely decided to roast a pig for the upcoming Mingle. Mel approaches Hot Guy Jack (Martin Henderson) as he is chopping wood (fully clothed). Scene 1: Establishing shots of barren mountains 300 miles from the nearest gay bar. Meanwhile I'll keep a tally of tragedies. I doubt that there are any gay people, but just to be sure, I watched Episode 6, where everybody mingles at the big town dance. But it's not like a Christmas romcom: Virgin River is overbrimming with soap opera scandals, hidden agendas, abandoned babies, long-lost black-sheep relatives, and tragic diseases. Wait - did I get that backwards? Doesn't everyone move from oppressive small towns to big-city sanctuaries? to small-town northern California, somewhere near Eureka. I actually didn’t mind Charmaine, she said really rude things which were annoying but the first season she just seemed like a cliche and this season we got more personality (albeit not a good one haha). The #1 seies on Netflix this week is Virgin River, about a nurse named Mel who, after the death of her husband (there's always a dead spouse), wants to find a sanctuary where "there's never any trouble," like Dorothy in Oz, so she moves from L.A. It made the birth control drama easier to swallow and didn’t make me entirely hate her character because she was doing something nice for Preacher even though she was being shitty to Lizzy. I liked that they gave Connie a redeeming quality in trying to help Preacher. I loved the Muriel and Doc scenes! It was sweet to see Doc excited about his interests and I actually think they had good chemistry. I liked that Hope became was less intense. I loved Hope and Doc becoming like parental figures to her, especially with her husband’s anniversary. I liked Mel’s development- she had her grief moments but as a whole she seemed really put together this season and it was nice seeing her succeed in her career without all the drama around it. The picnic episode was heartwarming! I liked the mingle in season 1 too so I’m glad it was added. I feel like he just takes orders and does things for others-and I loved how Connie told him her childhood storyĬhristopher is cute-I’m glad he returned at the endĪnd I feel like I should find something to like about Charmaine so I guess I’m going with her dog Tucker.Īnd more I’m forgetting (I need to rewatch already lol) Lizzie might be annoying but she serves a purpose. (I suspect that eventually he dies and passes on the practice to Mel). Hope becoming more tolerable and actually working on her issues.ĭoc asking Mel to be a part of his and Hope’s wedding. Mel basically telling off her former sister-in-law. I love that Mel & Jack’s scenes weren’t just romance and we saw both of their vulnerability. Mel letting her go (some) of her guilt of Mark’s death (those sailing flashbacks were actually cute!) and Jack finally making that phonecall to the Lonergans parents. Mel and Jack dealing with their individual pasts. I liked most of things from S2 (I think people are too harsh).
